Asbestosis and noise are typical diseases that can be triggered by professional activities. Both have been listed by the Federal Government as a qualifying occupational disease.
The “List of occupational diseases” published by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in its updated version lists all occupational diseases according to Annex 1 to the Occupational Diseases Ordinance (BKV).
Taking into account new medical research results, the list of eligible occupational diseases was expanded by five diseases on 1 August 2017: leukemia by 1,3-butadiene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), focal dystonia among instrumentalists, ovarian carcinoma (ovarian cancer) by asbestos and Laryngeal cancer by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).
