A fire broke out on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah on Wednesday, the second to hit the man-made island since the end of last year.
A plume of black smoke could be seen rising above the construction sites at the foot of the Palm where it joins the mainland, but the cause was not immediately apparent.
In December, the Oceana apartment block on the Palm caught fire, prompting the residential building to be evacuated. No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished several hours later.
The UAE city has seen numerous building fires in recent years – the most high profile of which was the fire that ravaged The Address Downtown hotel on New Year’s Eve 2015.
Officials recently updated the official UAE fire safety code, setting new requirements for developers and construction firms in the country.
