As a world-leading producer of safety shoes and workwear, the ALBATROS brand has been awarded the coveted design prize for the new, groundbreaking safety shoe model “Splendid Green GH Low”.
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s biggest design competitions. It is one of the most prestigious accolades of quality design that is awarded in around 50 different categories to the best international producers and designers from around the world among the products submitted. A jury made up of around 50 international experts evaluates each submission and awards the Red Dot to those products which truly stand out in the disciplines Product Design, Brands & Communication Design and Design Concept. The “Red Dot” award has established itself as one of the most coveted seals of quality for good design: products awarded by the Red Dot Jury are united by their outstanding design quality. The numerous categories show that good design is now a sales-boosting argument even in product categories dominated by technical aspects – including PPE.
Under the concept “Green Heart”, ISM’s development of sustainable safety shoes is tackling demand from partners, end customers and retail hands on. The new safety shoe model “Splendid Green GH Low” from the ALBATROS brand has now been awarded the Red Dot Award 2022 and is proof that sustainability, functionality, safety, durability and design-based optics are not at all mutually exclusive.

Through extensive involvement in sustainability measures, the company promotes positive change wherever it is. The development of sustainable safety shows was therefore only a logical consequence.
The modern, contemporary and sporty “Green Heart” model from the ALBATROS brand meets the safety requirements of Class S1P in line with DIN EN ISO 20345, is ESD-compatible and matches the high standards set by ISM – for uncompromising safety and lasting comfort. The Safety Knit® Green outer material of the Splendid GH Green is produced from recycled polyester fibers, preserving resources and reducing waste. The Evercushion® Green insole is particularly eco-friendly and consists of recycled foam and tear-resistant polyester fibers. It is breathable, possesses good shock absorption and supports the foot’s natural rolling motion. The sustainable latest-generation FAP® GREEN protection against perforation made of non-metallic, extremely tear-resistant and recycled textile fibers delivers a particular boost when it comes to comfort and safety. A particularly high degree of flexibility ensures that the protection against perforation offers the wearer unlimited protection, while remaining barely noticeable.
The XTS Cross Terrain sole of the ALBATROS Splendid Green GH Low is easy to clean and guarantees perfect contact with the ground. It is slip- and abrasion resistant and heat-resistant up to 300°C (HRO). Thanks to the specially
designed sole profile and wide flex grooves, optimal flexion and excellent water displacement are guaranteed for a firm grip on all kinds of surfaces.
At the core of this intelligent dual.IMPULSE® sole technology is a dual foamed midsole made of IMPULSE.FOAM® that reacts to every step with an energy impulse. Therefore, IMPULSE.FOAM® not only actively returns up to 55% of the energy used to the body, but also provides maximum cushioning, excellent stability and long-lasting comfort – for fatigue-free work and permanent optimum performance.
“The design of the ALBATROS Splendid Green GH with its clever functionality also impressed us with production in line with high eco-friendly standards,” explained the jury on their decision.
The Albatros Splendid Green GH Low also proved to be particularly sustainable in terms of packaging. The hangtag for the barcode, kept to a minimum, and the shoebox are both produced using FSC-certified cardboard. Internal packaging material has been entirely done away with.
