Whether you use safety glasses, goggles or a face shield, fogging is a regular issue for many workers wearing face masks or respirators. This typically occurs when warm moisture (exhaled breath or sweat) reaches the lens. The quick temperature variation transforms the vapor into small water droplets that stick to the closest available surface.
Wearing a mask tends to create a ‘chimney effect’ where the exhaled air is sent at high pressure through small air gaps at the top of the mask. The pressure increases the moisture’s temperature, and channels it towards the cool lens, increasing the risk of fogging. Fog is responsible for reducing visibility which can lead to accidents in the workplace. In order to reduce this natural phenomenon, here are three tips we want to share:
Select safety eyewear with anti-fog permanent coating
Some lens technologies have been specifically engineered to be fog-resistant. These anti-fog coatings are available on various materials and are a real asset when using eyewear with a mask. These coatings improve visibility and performance while keeping a high impact resistance.
Lens selection: PLATINUM® & K-lear
Use PPE made of an anti-fog material
Some materials such as PET have fog-resistant properties. Ultra-light, PET is ideal for first responders’ needs but have very low impact resistance & limited optical quality.
Product selection: NINKA, DFS2
Use an anti-fog spray
Anti-fog solutions are available in sprays. Although their actions are not permanent, they provide a great barrier against fog and can be used on prescription glasses that are often not fog-resistant. These sprays leave a small anti-fog film on the lens surface. Please note that washing your glasses might remove some of the anti-fog film.
Product selection: B-CLEAN PACF030 & PACF50
PLATINUM®: The ultimate anti-fog/anti-scratch permanent coating

This permanent coating is applied by a meticulous dipping process on both sides of the lens that gives PLATINUM® coated eyewear a unique high scratch resistance and delays fogging. Imitated but not equalled, PLATINUM® goes beyond the requirements of all international standards. In all conditions and at all times, this concentrate of technology provides the maximum protection for your eyes, even in the harshest environments.
Available in a wide range of glasses, goggles, OTGs and RX glasses.
K-LEAR: The accessible anti-fog/anti-scratch permanent coating
This permanent coating is both highly protective and economical. Applied by a dipping process on both sides of the lens, K-lear is highly effective and is ideal for users who require to change their PPE often for safety or
regulatory reasons. K-LEAR will be the perfect fit for most applications.
Available in a wide range of glasses, goggles and OTGs.
B-CLEAN: Anti-fog spray & cleaning range

This range of highly efficient cleaning and anti-fog solutions is perfectly adapted for both prescription and non-corrective lenses, which makes it a great alternative to permanent coating. As some glasses & goggles, whether they are prescriptive or not, have no anti-fog permanent coating, B-CLEAN products are ideal to improve visibility and comfort.
